Lens Color Options and What They Mean

When sunglass shopping, it is essential to know your lens color options and what they mean. Sunglasses have different tints for a reason, and they aren’t based on looks. You can use our color guide below to help you choose which shade is best for you.

Sunglass Color Guide:

Grey: Grey is a neutral tint. The grey tint lets you see colors in their purest form, which means they are great for driving and outdoor sports like hiking and golf. Grey is one of the most popular color selections because it can be good for cloudy and sunny days. Grey also offers overall protection from the glare from snow and water.

Green: Green tints offer high contrast and visual sharpness. The shade is great for sunny and low-light environments. Green tinted glasses are an excellent option for boating, outdoor sports, or daily use. Green lenses are perfect for everyday wear.

Yellow and orange: Yellow lenses filter out blue light, which can cause eye strain. A lot of outdoorsmen (and women), baseball players, skiers, and target shooters prefer yellow lenses because it provides clarity and visual sharpness.

Amber and brown: Although not recommended on cloudy days or in low light, the amber and brown tint is excellent for sunny days and improves your depth perception.

Rose and red: Comforting to the eye, sunglasses with a red tint can reduce eye strain by blocking blue light, similar to yellow and orange lenses. Red lenses work well in the snow and most other weather conditions.

Are Sunglasses Really That Important?

Are Sunglasses Really That Important?

Wearing sunglasses allows you to represent your flair, your personality, and are a fun accessory, but are sunglasses really that important?

Sunglasses are a summer (and winter) staple for me; I wear them all of the time. I love how they protect my eyes, and that I have so many super fun options to choose from. There are so many different lens options and colors to choose from; you can’t go wrong. But let’s talk about the benefits:

Why Are Sunglasses Important?

There's no question that when you wear sunglasses, you feel like you have more confidence. But are sunglasses really that important?
  • UV Protection: UV protection means blocking the ultraviolet rays from reaching your eyes. UV rays aren’t just out in the summer or on a bright sunny day; they can reflect off sand, water, ice, and snow, even on an overcast day.
  • Sunglasses in the Winter: You may not see as many people wearing sunglasses in the winter as you do in the summer, but sunglasses protect your eyes year-round. Don’t forget, the sun reflects off the snow and ice too.
  • Better Vision in the Sun: Wearing sunglasses will help you see better in bright light. Sunglasses help cut down on reflective glare and can help improve the colors and contrast of your outside view.
  • Eye Protection: When you are outside, the wind is blowing, and depending on the season, there is sand, snow, allergens, etc. in the air. Instead of letting the wind, sand, and snow irritate your eyes, you can protect them with your favorite sunglasses or eyewear.
  • Add an Rx: The great thing about sunglasses is when you have an optical prescription, you can combine the two and have prescription sunglasses. Prescription sunglasses are one of my favorite accessories, and they come in so many frame options.

5 Benefits of Eyeglasses

If you’re having issues with your vision, no doubt, eyeglasses can help you see better, and they’ve come along way in their style and comfortability. Technology has made them lighter, sturdier, and more fashionable. If you’re on the fence between getting contacts or eyeglasses, let us help you decided.

Benefits of eyeglasses:

  • They improve your vision: With no surprise, the #1 benefit of glasses is that they improve your vision. There’s no need to squint and strain your eyes with the many beautiful, unique, and colorful frames nowadays.
  • Glasses require little cleaning and maintenance: If you wear glasses, you probably carry a small cleaning cloth around to clean the smudges off, and every few years you might need to bring your glasses in for an adjustment or to fix a loose screw. Pretty low maintenance!
  • In the long run, eyeglasses are less expensive: As long as you love the frames, your glasses can last for a long time. Stay up to date with your optometrist for your most current prescription.
  • Glasses make a great fashion statement: Having a couple of pairs of eyeglasses is such a fun way to accessorize your wardrobe. In past years glasses were seen as just an aid for vision, now glasses are a fashion statement.
  • Sunglasses: Summer or winter, proper sunglasses provide great protection against the sun. UV A, B, and C rays can be damaging to your eyes. Plus they help your eyes when driving and performing many activities and you don’t even need a prescription to wear them.

So clean off those glasses, pair them with a great outfit and protect those peepers!!
