5 Reasons We Love Krewe Eyewear

5 Reasons We Love Krewe Eyewear

Krewe Eyewear is one of our favorite brands here at The Sunglass Shoppe. We love that they are an independent eyewear company that takes inspiration from the culture in its home city. We think you will love Krewe Eyewear too! Here are five reasons we believe Krewe Eyewear is one of the best brands for eyeglasses and sunglasses.

Inspired by New Orleans

Krewe Eyewear founder Stirling Barrett started Krewe Eyewear in his hometown of New Orleans. The brands’ modern, iconic frames are inspired by the rich culture of the Big Easy. The energy and diversity of the city is translated into their eyewear designs, making them unique.

Invests in the Community

From the start, Barrett wanted to use Krewe eyewear to invest in New Orleans. It was important to him to contribute to the economy in his hometown by headquartering and manufacturing his eyewear there. He also has two brick-and-mortar stores in the city. His company continues to put down roots in New Orleans and provide jobs locally.

Gives Back to the Community

Barrett took his mission to give back to the community of New Orleans a step further by starting a non-profit organization called the Krewe Foundation. Through this, he provides local disadvantaged high school students with free prescription eyewear. The foundation has touched the lives of hundreds of students through the program.

High-Quality

Krewe makes high-quality, small-batch, hand-crafted frames. Only the best materials are used in the manufacturing process. The use of premium metals, plant-based acetate, and bio-plastic means the frames are ethically sourced and produce as little waste as possible. The lenses are shatter-resistant and offer 100% UVA and UVB protection. Special anti-smudge and anti-scratch coatings ensure that your view is always clear. After production, each pair of Krewe eyewear is put through a 100-point quality check to make sure customers only get the very best.

The Second Chance Program

Every pair of Krewe Eyewear is backed by the Second Chance Program. The first time a pair of frames breaks or is damaged Krewe will repair or replace them for free. After the first time, Krewe will repair or replace your eyewear for a small standard fee. They want to make sure you are back in your Krewes as soon as possible.

6 Places to Visit this Summer in Saugatuck, Michigan

Saugatuck, MI, is a quaint little town located on the west side of the state on Lake Michigan. This beach town is rich in relaxation and recreation; it’s the perfect place to visit during the summer with lots of things to do, an eclectic collection of shops, unique places to stay, and renowned restaurants for exceptional dining experiences.

Here are some of our favorite places to go during the summer in Saugatuck!

Saugatuck Dunes

Spend a hot summer’s day on Oval Beach
Ranked as one of the top 25 beaches in the world, Oval Beach is a hot spot during the summer months. Surrounded by tall sand dunes and bordering the Kalamazoo River, it’s the perfect spot to catch some rays (with your sunglasses on, of course). Plan to get there early when you go, as parking will fill up fast!

Take a sunset cruise on the Star of Saugatuck
Cruise down the Kalamazoo River in the evening on the Star of Saugatuck for the perfect sunset view. This paddlewheel boat cruises throughout the day, but we love the sunset cruise for the views. Enjoy a glass of wine or cold beer while cruising this scenic waterway. If you are lucky, you might see a bald eagle, fox, or even a deer during the cruise! It is truly a fun excursion for all ages.

Indulge in a Butler Burger
The Butler Restaurant, located in the heart of downtown Saugatuck, is known for its famous Butler Burger. This ½ pound ground Angus sirloin burger is topped with grilled ham, American cheese, lettuce, and mayonnaise, which will make your mouth water just thinking about it! Of course, there is more to the menu than just the burger. Enjoy spectacular views of the Kalamazoo River with outdoor seating and live entertainment on the deck during the summer months. Have a boat? There are plenty of docks for you to tie up and dine in!

Stay at a Bed and Breakfast Inn
There are numerous bed and breakfast spots in Saugatuck depending on your personal preferences. For a historic feel, the Belvedere Inn was built back in 1912 and has 10 European-style rooms. Your stay includes breakfast every day. If you are looking to stay right in downtown Saugatuck, try the BaySide Inn. This bed and breakfast was once a boathouse that has since been converted into an inn. All rooms include an outdoor deck or balcony with Kalamazoo River as your background.

Climb the Mt. Baldhead Dune
Get your workout in by climbing 303 wooden steps up 250 feet for a fantastic view of the Kalamazoo River Valley as your reward! Once you get to the top, the observation deck offers a panoramic view of Lake Michigan. At the bottom of the dunes, you can enjoy your lunch in the picnic pavilion or go fishing across the street off the dock.

Ride the Dunes
If you’re not up for climbing the dunes, why not go for an adventurous ride up and down on them with the Saugatuck Dune Rides? Learn about the lost town of Singapore while taking a rollercoaster-type ride up and down the dunes. You might even come across some wildlife on your ride!

Tips for Selecting New Eyewear

Your Eyewear Reflects Your Personal Style

Your Eyewear Reflects Your Personal Style

People will stare, make it worth their while.

We people-watch consciously and subconsciously. Some people enjoy observing people and their interactions. We all communicate with body language, and we can learn a lot about someone just by watching them. We also tend to notice what people are wearing, from their clothing to their eyewear.

Have you ever noticed a person’s eyewear? I can’t help myself, but the first thing I notice is an individual’s eyewear and what it says about them. When we travel to optical trade shows, we make sure we curate eyewear for all of our customer’s specific sizes, colors, and styles. When people come to our stores to shop, we look at facial features and ask many discovery questions, so we can begin suggesting eyewear frames. It is fun to work with different personalities.

Some of our customers want to have something unusual or quirky with bold shapes and striking colors. We find that some individuals wish to that industrial or architectural look with simple, clean lines made from unique materials. Others may want a frame from the American eyewear artisan with a crisp classic look. Some people like that one of a kind bespoke frame, hand-made in London and personalized to their exact measurements, color palette, and personal style.

What’s your style?
